30 NOV 2017 ·  TranzCom DMR Project De Lijn

TranzCom, a brand of VINCI Energies Belgium and active in telecommunication and energy distribution, was awarded the contract to deliver the advanced DMR (Digital Mobile Radio) network and new on-board equipment for more than 4000 trams and buses.
It will be the biggest DMR network ever implemented in the European public transport market.

The Flemish transport company De Lijn has awarded the project to TranzCom which, in collaboration with Leonardo, a global high-tech company and one of the key players in aerospace, defence and security, will update the network and the on-board communication equipment of De Lijn’s more than 4,000 tram and bus fleet.

The new system will be the biggest DMR (Digital Mobile Radio) network ever implemented in the European public transport market. In more details, TranzCom and Leonardo will install a new DMR communications network and new on-board equipment for the buses and trams operating in the north of Belgium.

The network will be based on a regional multisite simulcast trunking technology, including more than 160 base stations and more than 4,000 radio modems. A smooth migration from the present analogue trunking network to the DMR Tier III system will be assured with the simulcast technology of Leonardo. The new on-board equipment will manage the data and voice over DMR through the Tranzcom’s DMRCab on-board module.

Transporting over 520 million passengers a year, De Lijn is one of the most important public transport companies in Belgium, covering five provinces and managing all urban, suburban and intercity buses in Flanders, the Belgian coast tram and the tramway in Antwerp and Ghent.

Leonardo is a global high-tech company and one of the key players in Aerospace, Defence and Security. Headquartered in Italy, Leonardo has over 45,600 employees. With its offices and industrial plants, the company is present in 180 sites worldwide, with a significant industrial presence in four domestic markets (Italy, the UK, the U.S. and Poland) as well as strategic partnerships in the most important high potential international markets.
